Independent by design, global by network.

Our Story

A user-driven initiative, RAAPID grew directly from the needs of those working to understand and respond to agricultural shocks. RAAPID was born at NASA Harvest, NASA's Global Food Security and Agriculture Consortium, based at the University of Maryland, with early research roots at the University of Strasbourg. Over several years, its teams built a track record of peer-reviewed, satellite-based agricultural monitoring, and began responding to real crises. Demand outpaced capacity, with more requests than the team could take on.

RAAPID grew out of a simple gap. When a shock hits - whether conflict, flood, drought, or market disruption - there was no dedicated capacity to assess its impact on agriculture fast enough to act. RAAPID was built to fill it.

Today, RAAPID is incubated by RF Catalytic Capital (RFCC), the Rockefeller Foundation's affiliated catalytic-capital vehicle, as it scales toward becoming an independent global initiative.

Our Partners

RAAPID is a network, not a single institution - with partners coming together from across the food and agriculture ecosystem. Our work is possible because founding partners contribute the science, data, and infrastructure behind every assessment, and a wider ecosystem of contributing partners extends our reach and expertise.

A growing ecosystem of technical and delivery partners provide data, validation, delivery, and on-the-ground reach. RAAPID is run by a lean team backed by a global network of researchers and analysts across our partner institutions.
